The president Quim Torra characterized the Notre Dame fire as a “disgrace.” Alfred Bosch declared the support of Catalonia to the French people and to the city of Paris.

The Twitter account of Catalonia’s culture department also expressed “consternation” at the event. “From Catalonia we express our solidarity with Paris and the French government”. The delegate in France, Daniel Camós, said in an interview with Catalunya Rasio that the Catalan government is “made available” to the French authorities.

The head of opposition, Inés Arrimadas, stated that she was “following with concern the fire which is setting ablaze one of the world’s most beautiful cathedrals. She described the images of the site on fire as “startling”. “All the support and affection to the citizens of Paris and to the French people on such sad day. Notre-Dame cathedral is a treasure and a cultural heritage of Europe and the world. Barcelona hugs Paris and we will be with you to restore this beloved cathedral”, Anne Hidalgo said.
